My Story

Hi, I’m Maria. A naturally curious human who is not afraid to ask questions and loves sharing resources.

Smiling woman in purple shirt with short brown hair, standing indoors with a neutral background.

This is me.

I have been practicing massage for over twenty-five years and have been focusing on pelvic & abdominal health for the last thirteen.

In 2020 I started weaving homebirth midwifery into my life by attending an online school and apprenticing with a local midwife. Birthwork and bodywork blend together naturally - some of the bodywork techniques I have learned were passed down by midwives.

My eldest daughter was born with gastroschisis (basically, some of her insides were outside of her) and I wanted to help her body heal and grow in the way I knew best, through bodywork. So, I started learning about scar tissue care and abdominal massage. The learning grew into a passion.

Pretty soon I was studying everything abdominal and pelvis related that I could. My massage clients swiftly shifted to mainly pregnant and postpartum clients - many were referred by local midwives. These lovely people planted the seed of birthwork.

Be the change you want to see in the world. -Gandhi

Eventually, I decided to step into learning midwifery because people will continue to have babies no matter the state of the world. And I want to be available and know the skills, no matter what’s going on in the world. It was a very practical approach; rather matter a fact. I will point out that it was during lockdown that I made this decision. Midwifery care is my form of resistance.

Midwifery has shaped my life. I have been humbled by the honor of being able to walk along women transforming into a mothers. My heart has been expanded by all the families I have served. Midwifery has taught me to be a deep listener.

I most enjoy working with clients who are willing participants in their process: I’m here to help guide, nudge and cheer you on.

It is a blessing to be allowed into peoples’ lives and stories. I am constantly in awe at how resilient, unique and beautiful people are. If you choose to work with me, I will honor your uniqueness, present information & resources and respect your choices. You know yourself best.

A few random things: My husband and I met at an adoption agency. Both of our daughters’ names mean peace …. which was not done on purpose.
