My Story
Hi, I’m Maria. A naturally curious human who is not afraid to ask questions and loves sharing resources.
This is me.
Be the change you want to see in the world. -Gandhi
No matter the state of the world, people will continue to have babies and build families. When we forget how to grow, birth and take care of our own families and communities we’re left needing to trust a system outside of ourselves and our community. My goal is to bring this knowledge and wisdom back to families and communities with guiding support and loving care. We are all stronger together.
In this way midwifery is my form of keeping power with the people and for the people - my form of quiet activism.
Bodywork is the lens I approach midwifery from:
A balanced body equals opportunity for a balanced baby
Nervous system regulation effects the whole being and baby
We are more malleable and resilient than most of us believe
One of my favorite parts of attending a birth is the feeling of everyone being present and quietly attentive. It is a exhilaratingly calm feeling when everyone’s common goal is to meet the needs of the birthing duo - duo because babies are an active participant.
I most enjoy working with clients who are willing participants in their process: I’m here to help guide, nudge and cheer you on.
It is a blessing to be allowed into peoples’ lives and stories. I am constantly in awe at how resilient, unique and beautiful people are. I respect your choices and believe you deserve to make choices for yourself and your family. At the same time, I have my own boundaries that I hold to. Midwifery is an intense life choice and I want to be here for the long run - so, maintaining my boundaries is a must. If something is outside of my scope or outside of my boundaries I will communicate this kindly. Fortunately, there are many wonderful practitioners with the community to confer with and refer to.
My training spanned five years of apprenticeship and completing an online midwifery school. Along with this I am regularly meeting with local midwives to practice skills and do peer review. Often I am taking supplementary classes, reading books and attending workshops. Midwifery is life long learning!
October 2025 I became a certified professional midwife through NARM and then became a WI licensed midwife. Minnesota is a voluntary licensing state whereas Wisconsin requires a license. Living right next to WI it makes sense to be able to offer midwifery services there. While in general I am not pro licensing, I also refuse to practice illegally. It’s my belief that every midwife gets to decide for themself how they want to practice. I believe in community building and believe that all midwives are stronger together, no matter their credentials.
A few random things: My husband and I met at an adoption agency. Both of our daughters’ names mean peace …. which was not done on purpose.
My family: Ted, Olive and Paloma
