Cesarean Scar Care
You can offer full support and guidance after a cesarean birth.
Scar Care for Birth Supporters Sunday, April 23rd 11am - 1pm @ Duluth Midwife’s Office: 250 McDonnell Rd Duluth, MN
Class led by Maria Antonescu: massage therapist and future midwife. Learn more about Maria here.
People are not given adequate, or sometimes any, information on how to care for their cesarean birth scar nor why it’s important to do so. As people who support pregnancy, birth and/or postpartum, you can’t research everything for everyone. Cesarean scars are notorious for causing painful sex, back pain and frequent urination … sometimes 25 years post surgery!!
I am here to offer a simple presentation to help you understand the How, Why and When of scar care:
-How surgical scars form and typical healing patterns
-Knowing when a scar isn’t healing and more care is needed
-Why and How to guide your client’s scar care
-The when: fresh, healing, recently healed and older scars can need different care.
-A variety of techniques and the timelines of when to utilize them
-Guest Doula speaker, Amanda Lambert: What it has been like being part of cesarean births and how she supported the family during surgery and after.
Who is this class for: Anyone who works with pregnancy, birth or postpartum.
Doulas, Midwives, Lactation Support Providers, Chiropractors, Craniosacral Therapists, Nurses, OBs, Hospital Midwives, ect.
Resources: You will be given a handout at the class that you can share with your clients along with access to a digital copy that you are welcome to share liberally - because mamas deserve to know. I will also reference other books you may find useful, but are not necessary.
Please come with:
Paper and pen for note taking.
A hydrating beverage to sip on.
Slippers and a sweater to stay cozy.
Compassion and curiosity.
If there is extra time we can discuss perineal scar healing and care - though this may be best at a second gathering.
A suggested donation of $20 is appreciated. Venmo: @Maria_Antonescu
